From the Castello Estense take Via Ercole I D’Este with its buildings and gardens that create a Renaissance atmosphere. After Palazzo dei Diamanti and Piazza Ariostea cross the the vegetable gardens between the Cimitero ebraico (Jewish cemetery) and the Certosa (the main cemetery), ascend to the city walls and continue until Porta degli Angeli. After going through the Parco Urbano Giorgio Bassani on the cycle route FE203 you will reach Francolino. Once you have arrived climb up the banks of the river until you reach the Destra Po ( the right bank of the river) using the FE20-Eurovelo 8. The destination of this route is the “Mulino del Po” at Ro Ferrarese

2 - LE TERRE DELLA BONIFICA (The reclaimed lands) from Copparo to Portomaggiore

From Copparo make your way towards Gradizza and Sabbioncello San Vittore where you can visit the “Villa La Mensa”, the summer residence of the bishops of Ferrara. Following the Po of Volano you will reach Sabbioncello San Vittore, Final di Rero and Tresigallo.
From Finale di Rero take the riverbank road that follows the Po of Volano to Migliarino. After a couple of kilometers you will reach Ostellato, here take the Strada (Valle) del Mezzano crossing the valley and following the signs of “Anse di Porto” and the “Oasi di Bando”. Finally you will reach Portoverrara and the route ends in Portomaggiore.

3 - SOTTO L'ARGINE DEL PO (Below the banks of the Po) From Copparo to Ro Ferrarese

Leave the town of Copparo coasting the Canale Naviglio on its left bank, continue until you reach Saletta where you will be able to see the “Chiesa di San Michele” (Church of Saint Michael).

Carry on past Ruina until you get to Borgo Fornace where you can still see the kiln used for cooking bricks and the clay quarries.

Arrived at Zocca the cycle path climbs up to the bank of the Po and connects to the cycle route “Destra Po” taking you quickly to the farming village of Ro Ferrarese.

4 - IL PO DI VOLANO – Ferrara /Volano

From the Estense Castle (Castello Estense) take Via Giovecca until you reach the roundabout. Cross it and go straight on towards Via Pomposa following the signs for Tresigallo. Once you reach the first traffic lights turn left and take the cycle path. From Pontegradella onwards the route follows the banks of the Po of Volano. Crossing a bridge to the other side of the river you will reach Sabbioncello San Vittore. Continue on this path and after a couple of kilometers take a right turn towards the Chiusa di Valpagliaro (the sluice of Valpagliaro). Once you are back on the dirt track you will get to Rero where you have to take the country road that runs along the right bank of the river and leads to the 1800s centre of Migliarino and Migliaro.
Keep going until you see Massa Fiscaglia and stay on the right bank of the Po di Volano all the way to Codigoro.

5 - LA DESTRA PO (The right bank of the River Po) From Stellata di Bondeno to Gorino

Starting from the Rocca Possente of Stellata follow the banks of the Panaro and after 10 km you will reach Bondeno, from here go back to the bank of the River Po and continue towards Ferrara through the Woods of Porporana and eventually you will reach Pontelagoscuro. Shortly after the village you will be able to see the “Isola Bianca” ( White Island) and Francolino. Keep following the banks of the river going through the villages of Zocca,Guarda, Berra and Serravalle.
After Ariano Ferrarese continue through Mesola and Goro. From the fish market of this quaint village take the banks of the river all the way to Gorino where you can take excursions to the mouth of the River Po.

6 - PEDALARE SUL GRANDE DELTA (cycling on the great river delta)(VENICE-FERRARA)

From Venice take the riverboat to Chioggia (bicycle transportation is available). From Chioggia once you have crossed the bridge over the Brenta river you will reach Cà Lino. To get from here to the Delta area of the Po River you have to cross another important river, the Adige, that on one side has the famous seaside resort Rosolina Mare and on the other has Rosolina. Before reaching Rosolina take the road for Porto Levante then go towards Cà Venier and cross the river towards Cà Mello. Once you reach Santa Giulia cross the “Po di Gnocca” and continue for Gorino Veneto where you will cross the “Po di Goro” taking you into the Province of Ferrara and to Gorino Ferrarese. From here onwards the path connects to the Destra Po cycle route all the way to your destination Ferrara.

7 - LA DESTRA PO (the right bank of the Po River) –FROM FERRARA TO GORINO

Set off from the Castello Estense of Ferrara and make your way towards the city walls after which you will see the Parco Urbano Giorgio Bassani. Take the cycle path (FE 202-FE203) that cuts across the countryside and reaches the Po River at Francolino connecting the path to the Destra Po(FE20) cycle route.

From here cycle on the bank of the Po until you reach the village of Ro and continue through Guarda, Berra and finally Serravalle. Follow the signs for Ariano Polesine from here and take the road that runs along the “Po di Goro” towards Mesola. From the “Castello di Mesola” (Mesola Castle) the route goes through the large cove the Po of Goro makes northbound before it heads south for over 10 km creating one of the most astounding natural areas of the Parco del Delta del Po (Park of the Po Delta).

After a couple of kilometers you will reach Goro and after that Gorino Ferrarese, from here take the country road to Lanterna Vecchia, the ancient lighthouse that showed the way to sailors.

8 - LUNGO IL PO DI VOLANO (Along the Po of Volano) From Ferrara to Ostellato

From the Castello Estense make your way towards Via Bologna in the southern part of the city and take the cycle path below the city walls exiting the city in the east by taking the cycle path to Pontegradella. Continue along the Pontegradella road towards Baura and once you have passed the bridge on the Po of Volano you will cross a series of small hamlets : Contrapò, Viconovo, Albarea and Denore. Just before you reach Denore cross the bridge over the Po of Volano towards Sabbioncello San Vittore on the left bank of the river until you reach Final di Rero where you will meet the cycle route called “Via delle Siepi” that will take you to Migliarino. Once you reach the village take a right and cross the footbridge over the Po of Volano entering the village itself. From here onward the country roads leave the banks of the river that carries on northbound while the part of the river that stretches to Ostellato becomes the waterway of Ferrara.

The starting point is the area of the floodplains of the Mulino del Po, a faithful reproduction of the mills of over a century ago. Following the back roads you will reach Zocca where the actual cycle route starts (FE206) towards Copparo. You will then reach Sabbioncello San Vittore following the FE211 route flanking the Po of Volano. After Migliarino following the back roads and country lanes you will end your journey in Ostellato.

Set off from the Chiesa di San Giacomo in Ro Ferrarese and take the S.P14 towards Ferrara and then take the secondary roads towards Copparo until you get to Guarda. After this follow the cycle route beyond the intersection with the S.P14 towards Saletta and continue towards Copparo flanking the Naviglio Canal and finally crossing it using the cycle bridge reaching the town of Copparo right by the “La Tratta” museum.
